Academic Chatter

Welcome to [re]frame

Dear visitor, thank you so much for being here! What you currently see here is the result of almost two years of work, with some changes among the founding members and many obstacles to overcome.

It all started with a conversation during a digital coffee hour for early career researchers (ECR), where we lamented the limited visibility of our research and the many invisible barriers (and unwritten laws) in academic publishing. Out of this arose the – perhaps ambitious – idea to create a space that would not only draw attention to the work done by researchers in their early career stages, but also foster conversations across the many disciplines engaging with postcolonial studies. In the process, these conversations reframe how we understand and engage with the postcolonial in the current moment and, on a larger scale, question systemic practices inherent to the “ivory tower” that is academia.

As [re]frame slowly began to take shape, we kept returning to the idea that in order to challenge exclusionary practices within academia, we need to work together: Be it through sharing syllabi and course materials (in the password protected members section) or allowing for ECR voices to be heard in honest and critical reflections on the systems upholding unequal power structures (in the academic chatter section).
