Open Call

[re]frame is an online academic space that aims to amplify and foster early career scholarship as well as provide space for academic dialogue in postcolonial studies and related fields of study. Our academic blog is committed to investigating and problematising the complexities of forms of colonial, anticolonial, and decolonial patterns, phenomena, and infrastructures, as well as how they manifest in literary and cultural studies. Formed under the aegis of the GAPS (Association for Anglophone Postcolonial Studies), [re]frame encourages investigations of academia and academic practices, such as the colonial legacies of universities and the coloniality of knowledge systems that inform epistemologies. We envision [re]frame as an inter-disciplinary space that will function as part field diary, part methodology notebook while also sparking new ways of seeing.

For our inauguration, we warmly invite postgraduate and early career scholars to send in original contributions on the subjects of literary and cultural studies with a focus on postcolonial/anticolonial/decolonial inquiry as well as related fields and approaches. Submissions should support our aims and can be published under one of the following categories

Publication Categories

Short essays (max. 1500 words)

Essays should address and analyse literary and cultural studies topics, or provide scholarly evaluations of current socio-political issues in the aforementioned fields and approaches.

Reviews (600-1000 words)

Reviews can include reading impressions and reflections of academic and/or (non)fiction books, comics, graphic novels, poetry, performance art, visual art, museum exhibits and other formats relating to our main fields of inquiry.

This can include reflections and musings on academic struggles and joys, teaching methods and philosophies as well as reviews of academic conferences or workshops.

We are also happy to consider pitches that propose alternative forms.
